Aviv Kohavi served in the IDF for 40 years. He is the immediate previous Chief of the General Staff and one of the chief individuals with knowledge of what went wrong prior to October 7th.
He has largely been a ghost in Israel after Hamas’ invasion, rarely seen and less frequently heard from within Israel.
Unit 11741 has identified at least four occasions in which Kohavi spoke in America in the immediate aftermath of October 7th.

ABOUT THE MIRYAM INSTITUTE
Through its annual delegations to Israel for U.S. Military Cadets and active U.S. Military Officers and its Capitol Hill briefings to U.S. legislators and policy staffers as well as its engagement with elite graduate students throughout the United States, The MirYam Institute brings America’s best to Israel and Israel’s best to America, forging and cementing ties between the future leaders of both countries, for the benefit of both countries.
Please join us to hear from Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi (IDF, Ret.) a battlefield hero.
We look forward to having the pleasure of your company,
Lou Karger, David Rosenberg & Micah Jones

Informed by a career dedicated to the safety and security of the State of Israel, Lt. Gen. Aviv Kohavi will address himself to the events of Oct. 7, the military operation in the Gaza Strip and against Hezbollah and the strategic positioning of Israel at this time. Audience questions will follow the presentation.
Benjamin Anthony and Rozita Pnini, co-founders of The MirYam Institute, commented that “there is no individual more qualified than Lt. Gen. Aviv Kohavi currently available to speak about the tragic events of Oct. 7, 2023 and the military and strategic implications of the fallout of that horrific day. This candid briefing will deepen the understanding of all who are present. We look forward to a robust attendance from the community.”
And a separate post promoting the May 7th event:
From June 26th in Aspen, Colorado:
From June 30th in Westhampton, NY:
On January 15th, 2024, the Times of Israel reported that it was “noteworthy” when Kohavi made “his first public remarks since the beginning of the war.” Perhaps the article would have been more accurate if it clarified that it was Kohavi’s first public remarks that did not require an admissions fee.
