In a deeply moving ceremony Monday evening, Rabbi Tamir Granot officiated the wedding of Roni Levinson, the woman who was once engaged to his son killed earlier in the war against Hezbollah.
Levinson had become engaged to Captain Amitay Granot during the Sukkot holiday, just days before the October 7 Hamas attack. Eight days into the conflict, the couple spoke by phone and agreed to marry during Amitay's first leave from duty. Tragically, he was killed later that same day when a Hezbollah anti-tank missile struck the Nurit outpost near the Lebanese border.
The bride's new husband, identified only as "A.," is an officer in an elite IDF unit. The match was arranged by Tzofia, mother of Lieutenant Ivri Dickshtein, another fallen soldier from the Golani Brigade who was killed in combat in Lebanon.
At his son's funeral, Rabbi Granot had urged Levinson not to give up hope. "Dear Ronileh, it will be slow, it will take a long time. Choose life, choose life, choose life," he said in his eulogy.
Captain Amitay Granot served as a team commander in the 7th Armored Brigade's Sa'ar MeGolan formation.
