No, Major General Michel Yanko has not “transformed” the logistics of the IDF as is claimed in the Jerusalem Post this morning.
Most of the logistical achievements in the war have occurred as a result of avoiding his logistical bureaucracy and out-dated systems.
On October 10th, 2023 Yanko infamously lied and claimed that “the [storage units] were ready” and that every solider in combat will receive a ceramic vest. Multiple soldiers were killed or injured while wearing improper equipment that was issued by the IDF/MOD.
As of November 25th, 2024 there are still soldiers in frontline combat with tactically unsafe helmets and vests - gear that expired decades ago.
IDF soldiers and reservists quickly realized that they needed to figure out a way to secure safe equipment without relying on Yanko and his team. Unit 11741 and other organizations emerged to fill the gaps and attempt to provide proper equipment as quickly as possible.
In addition to the commission of inquiry into October 7th itself, it is important that Yanko’s logistics team is questioned under oath — how was Israel and the IDF so poorly supplied and so heavily dependent on donations?
