Today, Gimmel Tammuz, marks the yartzeit of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson—a luminous soul whose love, wisdom, and dedication continue to guide us beyond the confines of time and space.
The Rebbe passionately championed the eternal unity of the Jewish people, reminding us always that our shared Torah and mission transcend geographical boundaries. In gatherings of Jews from every corner of the globe, he found profound joy, witnessing the unbreakable bond that makes us truly "one people," united by our sacred traditions and divine heritage.
A tireless advocate for the Land of Israel, the Rebbe underscored its centrality to our spiritual essence, describing it as the land upon which "G‑d’s Eyes are focused from the beginning of the year to its end." His unwavering commitment to Eretz Yisroel manifested not only through spiritual guidance but also through tangible actions—always urging us towards a deeper connection with the land, both physically and spiritually.
The Rebbe held a special place in his heart for the brave soldiers of the IDF, those guardians who risk their lives to defend the Jewish homeland. He taught us to view soldiers injured in the line of duty not as handicapped but as "exceptional," endowed by the Creator with unique spiritual strengths that enable them to overcome challenges and achieve greatness. He passionately encouraged redefining their status from one of limitation to one of distinction, recognizing their extraordinary resilience, courage, and spiritual depth.
His wisdom and blessings reached beyond individuals, influencing global leaders as well. Prime Minister Menachem Begin, before critical peace negotiations in Washington, emphasized the importance of receiving the Rebbe’s blessings, highlighting the Rebbe’s profound love for the Jewish people and his unwavering belief in divine providence. The Rebbe’s guidance reinforced Begin’s own steadfast Jewish pride and commitment to Israel’s security, underscoring that the strength of the Jewish people transcends political events and rests upon eternal spiritual foundations.
Joy was central to the Rebbe’s teachings, a joy deeply rooted in fulfilling our divine mission. He emphasized igniting the soul of every Jew with the fire of Torah, likening each individual to a candle whose purpose is realized when lit by spiritual purpose and knowledge.
On this sacred day, as we honor the Rebbe’s memory, let us commit ourselves anew to his timeless message: transcend limitations, elevate the spiritual above the physical, and live with purpose and joy. May his teachings continue to inspire us, bringing closer the day when peace reigns in our hearts, our land, and throughout the world, with the coming of Moshiach swiftly in our days.
