For a variety of reasons I will refrain from naming names and specific details regarding the specific incident in which an IDF soldier was killed wearing sub-standard equipment.
Some months ago, Unit 11741 was made aware that there were younger soldiers in Gaza with sub-standard gear. We tried everything we could to replace the faulty equipment in a timely fashion. Unfortunately, we were unsuccessful.
Days later, a number of soldiers were killed and there is very little doubt that proper equipment would proven to be life-saving.
What can the IDF and the Israeli government possibly say to these parents? How do we explain that there were/are young men and women that entered a dangerous combat zone with gear that simply wouldn’t work?
How can a “leading army” be so woefully prepared and fail to protect its soldiers in combat?
How can the Ministry of Defense instruct Friends of the IDF to purchase flip-flops and mouthwash when frontline soldiers are still missing basic gear?
Here’s to hoping that parents receive the answers they deserve.
