I am reminded of a story about LBJ running for Congress in the late 1940s. He was running against a guy who was a pig farmer, and LBJ wanted to plant a story that the guy screwed his pigs. LBJ's campaign manager said he can't say that, because its not true. Johnson's answer was, paraphrasing, of course its not true, I just want to see him deny it.

All of the above scientific info is great, and maybe it'll even make someone stop and think, but I just can't help thinking that Kristoff just wanted the Jews to deny it.

Unfortunately, journalism has long ago drifted away from reporting what happened and into the far simpler task of reporting what people say happened.

And why not when popular culture allows for everyone to have their personal truth - which usually means, at odds with the factual evidence - and false narratives that can - magically - reveal a “deeper” truth.

One thing is clear, though. A truthful article would have revealed that Israel’s prison system suffers from similar problems as all of those in the West. But that would be rejected as “normalizing” Israel and implicitly rejecting the narrative requirement that Israel is uniquely evil.

The NY Times cannot come clean on either the article’s truthfulness or the deliberate timing if its publication as that would not only cost it its credibility, but in the absence of flushing its Augean stable of social justice progressives masquerading as journalists, lead to an internal revolt. So best to circle the institutional wagons and hope that some other story attracts attention.

That said, it would be amusing if at every venue he attends, Kristof is greeted by chants of “Who let the dogs out?”

A must read article on the history of the blood libel - and exact parallels to the present one.

This will be of interest. The New Times and Nick Kristof aren’t backing down a bit. We can only pray that Netanyahu and his cronies pursue their pathetic blood libel case in the U.S. The NYT attorneys will rip them to shreds.

Like I believe the UN, and Reuters.

Liora Jacob's avatar

Sure. Just as believable as Der Sturmer.

Every international body (and organization) is only as moral as its constituent states/members. When the majority are Jew hating autocratic thugocracies and the rest desperately trying to appease them while simultaneously harboring their own deep seated antisemitic tendencies, this is the inevitable result: Israel as the collective “Dreyfus Jew”.

Dan Nelson's avatar

Hint. Telling the truth isn’t a blood libel.

A blood libel would be conflating Jewish Americans, whose birthright is in the United States with Israelis and then implying that those Americans have loyalties. Where things go off, the rails is when we carelessly conflate Jews throughout the world with the 7.7 million Jews in Israel.

Eddie Edwards's avatar

Where is your evidence the story is true?

Dan Nelson's avatar

There is substantial evidence of routine gross abuse of Palestinians held hostage in Israeli prisons (without being charged with crimes or due process) with strong evidence of torture/inhumane treatment and sexual abuse.

Key evidence:

1. Israeli criminal investigations/court actions

Israel itself investigated soldiers at Sde Teiman for alleged sexual abuse of a Palestinian detainee. Reuters reported Israel said a “robust investigation” was underway, and AP later reported charges against five soldiers were dropped despite allegations of beating and sexual abuse partly caught on video.

2. Medical evidence and Israeli whistleblowers

Haaretz reported an Israeli doctor’s letter describing detainees at Sde Teiman held blindfolded, restrained, fed through straws, and suffering severe handcuff injuries including amputations. CNN/Reuters-type reporting also cited whistleblower accounts of systemic abuse.

3. UN documentation

The UN Human Rights Office reported allegations of torture, cruel treatment, and sexual abuse of Palestinian men and women in Israeli detention since Oct. 7, 2023. UN experts said they had received “substantiated reports” of widespread abuse, torture, sexual assault, and rape.

4. Israeli and international human-rights groups

The Israeli group B’Tselem and Physicians for Human Rights–Israel have gathered detainee testimonies on beatings, starvation, forced nudity, humiliation, threats, and sexualized violence. Reuters reported B’Tselem’s conclusion that abuse had become systematic; Israel’s prison service denied that and said prisoners were treated according to law.

5. The Kristof/NYT reporting itself

Reuters says the Times defended Kristof’s column as fact-checked and based on interviews with 14 people and confidants; Israeli of course leaders deny the allegations and have threatened to sue. Montreal experts say that the chances of such a law suit succeeding are very small.

Bottom line: there is credible, multi-source evidence that Palestinian detainees have been abused in Israeli custody, including serious allegations of sexual violence. The evidence is strongest where it is supported by Israeli proceedings, medical records, video, UN findings, and repeated independent testimony.

Liora Jacob's avatar

The truth? Oh, you mean like the absolute “fact” that Jews kill Christian children to drink their blood and bake it into matzah? The “truth” which led to the deaths of untold millions of Jews over the centuries?

And who exactly is conflating American Jews with those in Israel, attacking American Jewish shops, synagogues and people with abandon? Blaming American Jews for controlling everything including Trump and the weather?

Thanks for proving my point.

Eddie Edwards's avatar

That is a blood libel with no evidence of anything like that. The one instance of this was because a body flowed down the drain system and got caught in the water in the shop.

Dan Nelson's avatar

Evidently, you are so emotionally unbalanced that any legitimate discussion of terroristic and inexcusable violence and torture by Israel against the indigenous Gentiles must be instantaneously compared to the absurd “Protocols of the Elders of Zion”. If that’s the best you can do, please seek therapy and then rejoin us when you’re capable of being in the real world.

Your ridiculous form of argument may work within the safe confines of the echo chamber you reside in, but it doesn’t work out here in the real world.

Liora Jacob's avatar

“Indigenous gentiles”?

Lol.

Your projection is remarkable, though. The psychology of the trigger always so fascinating.

One of the great ironies of history: The mass persecutions, ethnic cleanings and genocides of Jews over the past few centuries are what made Israel the powerhouse it is today. Jew haters are too stupid to understand that they continue to make the case for a strong Jewish state better than any Zionist ever could.

Debkin's avatar

It’s simple. If you have to top gang rape. Broken pelvises. Genital mutilation. Torture. Murder. Shani louk with a massively broken leg unconscious half naked being paraded around and spat on. You HAVE to come up w rape dogs.

BobbyMoses's avatar

GAZA IS NOT AUSHWITZ. ITS MORE LIKE THE WARSAW GHETTO.

these accusations of genocide leveled at israel are so patently ridiculous that I brushed them off at first…but the way it mutated and became a linguistic currency for the tik tok mobs was particularly galling to me.

I took a closer look at the parallels which exist from ww2 and what I found was deeply ironic.

Gaza resembles the Warsaw ghetto except that the role of the S.S is played by hamas against their own people. Actually hamas is a demented fusion of the S.S and the jewish capos who oppressed their own people and controlled the black market in the warsaw ghetto..getting fat while poor powerless jews starved.

The Palestinian authority plays the role that the judenrat occupied..that comparison is quite complementary to the incompetent P.A.

Hamas is the S.S ..who not only perpetrated murder and rape on the jews on Oct 7th..but continue to murder, oppress and rape their own people..stealing goods and running a black market to gouge every last dollar from their inbred populations.

Yes…there is a quasi genocide going on here but its the islamo nazis perpetrating it…not israel…if any gazan were giving a choice between living under hamas or living as an Arab in israel…which do you think they'd choose?

Eddie Edwards's avatar

No it’s not. It was a beautiful area prior to October Seventh.

Dan Nelson's avatar

It was a beautiful area prior to 1947 too.

Eddie Edwards's avatar

That’s funny because that’s not what history says. The Jews living in Gaza had thousands of greenhouses in Gaza where they made millions. They left them for the Arabs in Gaza, and they burned them to the ground 24 hours after the Jews left Gaza.

Dan Nelson's avatar

Oh. I forgot that you believe in the BS. “A land without people for a people without land.” There absolutely wasn’t anyone there before the Europeans got there. Uh huh.

Dan Nelson's avatar

The good news is that you’ll grow out of this behavior as you mature and you deal with your PTSD.

BobbyMoses's avatar

Im not growing out of shit. I was a peace now guy who wanted to give land back..now I'm coming to the realization that my enemies want to die..this is becoming a war of extermination and idiots like you will get destroyed by one side or the other..either youre too dim to get it or a neo nazi

Dan Nelson's avatar

Well, one big difference is that the Nazis didn’t drop 2000 pound bombs on the Warsaw ghetto constantly.

Remember Hind Rajab!

Eddie Edwards's avatar

That’s what happens when you start a war.

Dan Nelson's avatar

Yes. Proud moments in the only country in the region with nuclear weapons.

Eddie Edwards's avatar

You do realize that Israel could have committed a real genocide in forty eight hours, if they wanted to, but the population of Gaza has increased since October 7th.

BobbyMoses's avatar

Are you being sardonic..ironic or is that actually your rebuttal? 2000 lbs bombs? No...the s.s just went in amd killed every last jew they got their hands on. I wore a uniform form and I can tell you that if the idf would had the same orders as hamas there would not be one asswipe left alive In The gaza strip...do...you...understand? This shit is unfuckingreal. Do you even think about what you're saying or are you so blinded by virtue signaling hate of jews? Worry about western civilization.. its going dowm.the tubes. Good luck

Dan Nelson's avatar

Do you remember Hind Rajab or the indigenous Gentiles brutally raped while held hostage in the obese Ben-Gvir’s prisons.

BobbyMoses's avatar

Buzz off with your red herrings and illogical digressions. Go debate a tik toker..its more on your level. Numnuts

Daniel ben Noach's avatar

Turns out, Nick Kristof takes his bichon frise, “Stud Muffin”, to a trimmery in the village called “The Grooming Gang”, which is how he knows all about being mounted by dogs.

I learned this from a source with a long history of fabricating lies about Kristof, who absolutely hates him and wants him dead. I want it to be true, so it must be true.

Eddie Edwards's avatar

The DOJ should sue him for slander with no evidence.

Dan Nelson's avatar

The NYT won’t crater on this. Indeed there is a story in today’s newspaper about the terrorism by squatters in the West Bank inflicted on the indigenous Gentiles there, with the IDF and the police helping them every step of the way.

So, if the animalistic Israeli prison guards didn’t actually have their dogs rape the Gentile prisoners, but only use their batons or other tools to do so while having the dogs violently attack them, I guess that’s OK? Because we know without a doubt that Gentile hostages held without charge or due process in Israel’s military prisons are hideously abused.

There weren’t any “evidentiary holes in his work”, you just pretended it never happened and called everyone who saw it happen Hamas.

Well, if nothing else, watching the literal emotional meltdown overall this is somehow sadly entertaining.
